Position description
The University of California, Irvine, Department of Dance seeks a part-time lecturer in Movement Analysis for dancers. The successful candidate is required to be either a Certified Movement Analyst (CMA) from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute (LIMS), or a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst (CLMA) from Integrated Movement Studies (IMS). The Movement Analysis Studies course for undergraduates and the Graduate Seminar in Movement Analysis for the UCI MFA in Dance program are graduation requirements. The appropriate candidate for this position understands and practices teaching the Laban Movement Analysis framework as an introductory course, providing relevance for dance populations in performance, choreography, and dance pedagogies. The concepts embedded in the Laban categories of Body, Effort, Shape, and Space underpin the teaching and learning environment, aimed at expanding ways of seeing, analyzing, and describing movement as it occurs in dance as well as in other movement disciplines and everyday life. The experienced candidate is able to teach a 10-week introductory course in Movement Analysis in-person class structures schedule for the fall, winter, or spring of 2024- 2025 for graduates and undergraduates.
Basic qualifications: M.F.A./M.A. in dance, or professional experience in the field. Teaching experience required (may include; college, university, or other professional teaching).
Preferred qualifications: M.F.A. in dance, more than one year of university level teaching experience, professional dance experience.
