The Department of Informatics in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) invites applications for two full-time lecturer positions.
The department is highly interdisciplinary with faculty backgrounds in software engineering, design, education, health informatics, media arts, among others. This, in no small measure, contributes to our strong international reputation as an innovative site for research and education in information technology and its applications. We seek outstanding colleagues who will thrive in and add to this environment. Successful applicants will join a welcoming and supportive community of four teaching-oriented faculty in the department and about a dozen overall in the school.
The primary responsibility is to teach up to seven (quarter) courses in our various undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The normal load is six courses, though that load carries the expectation that additional time be devoted to curriculum development, service to the department, and helping disseminate our work to the broader educational community.
We are particularly excited to launch a new Master of Software Engineering (MSWE) program aimed at working professionals in 2019-2020, to which we expect the lecturer to contribute significantly. In addition, the lecturer will be expected to contribute to our existing B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Software Engineering programs and, as occasionally needed, to our other B.S. programs in Informatics, Game Design and Interactive Media (anticipated evolution of the Computer Game Science major), and Business Information Management.
The search is comprehensive and we encourage applicants from a broad range of backgrounds to apply. The initial appointment is for one year, though we expect the successful candidate to be able to build a long-term career in the department.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or M.S. in a relevant field (or an equivalent combination of degree and experience) and exhibit a compelling teaching portfolio, as well as a clear vision for teaching to a diverse audience at the university level.

The academic year begins in late September and ends mid-June. The pay period for a full-time lecturer appointment is from July 1 through June 30 (a nine-month service period paid out over 12 months). Salary will be commensurate with degree and experience.
