The UCI Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral scholar to join Professor Kyriacos Athanasiou’s lab (http://engineering.uci.edu/users/kyriacos-athanasiou). The main objective is to engineer device- and biologically-based solutions to medical problems. Work will begin in the orthopaedics area but may broaden into other medical specialties as well.
Individual is expected to provide engineering and design expertise to engineer medical devices and enhance their translational potential. Particularly, it is of interest to engineer devices for non-destructive assessment of tissue properties using optical and/or ultrasound methods.
Additional work may include cell culture, mechanical testing, and histological and biochemical assays. Duties will include designing experiments and conducting independent research, preparing study results for publication, and supervising/training graduate and undergraduate students in proper laboratory research techniques and record-keeping.
Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in biomedical, mechanical, biochemical, or electrical engineering, or a related field. Engineering background with hands-on experience in prototyping, biophotonics, and preferably medical devices as well is strongly preferred.
