Position description

The Humanities Core Program is seeking applicants for part-time lecturer positions to teach courses during the 2019-2020 academic year. Annual full-time salary begins at $54,738, but please note appointments will be made at 41.25% to 82.50% time (one to two courses per quarter). Service period dates are: Fall Quarter 2019, 9/26/19-12/13/19, Winter Quarter 2020, 1/6/20-3/20/20, and Spring Quarter 2020, 3/30/20-6/11/20.

The Humanities Core Program at UC Irvine introduces students to the methods and objectives of humanistic inquiry by example and practice. In lectures, faculty from a wide range of disciplines will exemplify the way humanists approach issues from three general perspectives: philosophical, historical and cultural. Lecturers will use these perspectives to analyze the many different kinds of written texts and visual images in the assigned readings. In small discussion sections, students will practice these perspectives in classroom conversations and debates and in their own writing. These activities are designed to engage students intellectually as they examine the topic of the course throughout the year.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in a humanities discipline. Priority will be given to those with 3+ years of university teaching. Knowledge of Humanities Core and experience teaching composition are also preferred.

Applicants should submit 1) a letter of interest, 2) a current curriculum vitae, 3) current teaching evaluations, 4) any relevant teaching materials, and 5) Statement of Contributions to Diversity.

Submit materials via UC Irvine's online application system, RECRUIT, located at
https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/apply/JPF05156. Review of applications will begin after March 29, 2019.
