Position description

A Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Ron Frostig. The pre-clinical project for this position is focused on studying cortical neuronal and vascular mechanisms that lead to protection from impending ischemic stroke in an anesthetized or awake rodent model. These studies seek to reveal novel neuronal, vascular, and neurovascular interactions that underpin protection or their failure leading to ischemic stroke.

To study such mechanisms, we routinely employ multi-disciplinary approaches including state-of-the art high-resolution functional imaging techniques such as fast intrinsic signal optical imaging and the recently developed functional ultrasound imaging; blood flow imaging techniques such as laser speckle imaging, doppler optical coherence tomography, and functional ultrasound; neuronal recordings from microelectrode arrays; pharmacological interventions; behavioral tests; and post-mortem histology. Some of the projects involve collaborations with researchers at UCI’s Beckman Laser Institute, UCI’s cognitive science department, UCI’s statistics department, and stroke experts at UCI’s hospital.

Dr. Frostig’s laboratory is located in the department of neurobiology and behavior located in McGaugh Hall on UCI campus and is part of a rich and diversified neuroscience research environment at UCI.

Candidates should be highly motivated and have a recent Ph.D. degree in biomedical/bioengineering sciences or neuroscience. Experience in electrophysiology in addition to strong Matlab or Python programming experience is highly desirable.

Qualified candidates should submit curriculum vitae, a statement of research experience and interests and names and contact information for three references to the following on-line recruitment URL: https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF05203
