Position description

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Autumn Ivy: (https://www.faculty.uci.edu/profile.cfm?faculty_id=6398). Research in the Ivy lab investigates molecular mechanisms of early-life physical exercise on the development of cognitive and other brain functions, with a focus on neuroepigenetics. We use mouse models to examine the role of exercise in modulating the epigenetic landscape in both neurons and non-neuronal cells. We also introduce physical exercise as a post-hoc intervention in mouse models of genetic or acquired neurological disorders to identify specific, targetable mechanisms therapeutically engaged by exercise. The overarching goal is to understand how an early-life exercise experience may influence brain function in a lasting manner. This position would require competency a number of techniques in molecular neurobiology, including RT- and ChIP-qPCR, tissue sectioning and immunostaining, cell culture, mouse genetics and behavior, and preparing libraries for RNA- and ChIP-sequencing. The ideal candidate would be highly motivated, have expertise in the areas of molecular biology and/or neuroscience, and enjoys working with a team of dedicated students.
