The Thompson-Peer lab is seeking applicants for a Junior Specialist position, preferably with general lab experience and technical understanding. This lab studies how neurons respond to injury, focusing on highly branched projections known as dendrites which are responsible for receiving information. The long term research goal of the lab is to understand the cellular mechanisms of dendrite regeneration after injury.
The Junior Specialist will work with the Principal Investigator and other new lab members to help set up the lab. The incumbent will also assist members of the lab in conducting research projects on dendrite regeneration. Additional routine tasks will involve organizing, ordering supplies, coordinating repair of equipment, media preparation, Drosophila stock maintenance, and chemical inventory.
Successful candidates will demonstrate enthusiasm for taking on challenges, will be proactive when something needs to be done (self-motivated), and will have a strong desire to work as part of a team. Good communication skills are desired and an undergraduate degree is required. Recent graduates with an emphasis in life sciences/biological sciences are highly encouraged to apply.
