Project Scientist, Digital Learning Lab
The University of California, Irvine is seeking a Project Scientist to work in the Digital Learning Lab in the School of Education. Salary and rank within the Project Scientist series is commensurate with experience. Initial appointment is for one year, with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding. Anticipated start date is between October 1 and December 1, 2019.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include designing and implementing curriculum and professional development related to digital learning; designing and implementing research and evaluation studies of digital learning; analyzing data from such studies; publishing and presenting findings; writing funding proposals to seek external support; consulting with and mentoring teams of graduate and undergraduate students; managing communication, training sessions, and dissemination of research results; and coordinating the personnel and facilities within the Digital Learning Lab. The project scientist will work on a number of diverse projects related to academic writing, computer science education for all, online learning, and the use of conversational agents for young learners.
Requirements: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Education and post-PhD experience; broad expertise in research and evaluation of digital learning; particular expertise on topics related to reading, writing, and language development, including tools for text analysis, digital tools for scaffolding language and literacy development, and knowledge of measures related to writing motivation; broad knowledge of quantitative research design, including experiment with multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling, and power analysis; successful experience in development of survey measures; successful expertise in writing large federal grants; advanced expertise in academic writing and editing; successful experience in writing human subjects protocols; and expertise in leading research initiatives and teams. Prior experience collaborating with the UCI Digital Learning Lab and its projects is desirable.
