Position description

Applicants are invited for a postdoctoral scholar position beginning Fall 2020.

The postdoctoral fellow will work in Prof. Asantha Cooray’s group on topics related to cosmology and large-scale structure, data analysis of topics in large-scale structure focusing on the infrared background, infrared background fluctuation and anisotropy power spectrum measurements with existing and future datasets, development of tools for intensity mapping of spectral lines at optical and infrared wavelength, and multi-band cross-correlation studies. Extensive collaboration with experimental teams based at Caltech/JPL and RIT is expected. The fellow will join CIBER and SPHEREx collaborations. SPHEREx is currently scheduled to be launched in April 2023 and the UCI group is leading the galaxy formation science objectives with SPHEREx deep field maps. Substantial involvement in the SPHEREx data analysis pipeline will retain SPHEREx membership rights at the end of the position.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Physics or Astronomy prior to beginning the appointment. A background in cosmology and extragalactic astrophysics is also necessary for this work. The postdoctoral scholars are expected to work with the existing team members. The position requires significant experience with cosmological data analysis and experience with large-scale structure studies and intensity mapping is preferred.

The initial appointment will be for two years, with up to a total of five years contingent on successful performance and continued availability of funds for SPHEREx. Salary will be determined based on experience. The position includes significant research and travel funds.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent prior to beginning the appointment.

Applicants should send a CV, publication list, statement of research interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted via UC Irvine’s online application system, RECRUIT, located at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/apply/JPF05739.

For full consideration, applications should be received by December 31st 2019.
