Description

The UC Irvine Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Samueli School of Engineering is currently accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to study the cellular and molecular biology of Alzheimer’s disease. You will perform experiments to alter the course of age-related metabolic changes in neurons in culture and in vivo from Alzheimer-like transgenic mice under the direction of Dr. Gregory J. Brewer (http://brewer.eng.uci.edu) and Dr. Charles Glabe (https://www.faculty.uci.edu/Glabe). The NIH funded project examines hippocampal changes with aging that affect Alzheimer’s disease. You will discover crucial metabolic interventions to alter the processing of beta-amyloid by single cell fluorescence image analysis, metabolic assays and bioenergetics. The initial appointment will be full-time for two years. Renewal of the contract will be contingent on performance and the availability of funding. Note: Total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years including postdoctoral service at other institutions.

The University of California, Irvine is ranked among the nation’s best research institutes with over $90,000,000 in current funding. Enrichment opportunities abound through the AD Research Center, the MIND Institute and the Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory. Irvine has a pleasant climate, 5 miles from the beach.

Requirements: Ph.D. in cell biology, molecular biology, neuroscience, pharmacology or mitochondrial bioenergetics and interest in Alzheimer’s disease. Strong publication record, fluorescence image analysis, and work with transgenic mice and transfection experience preferred.

Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience. Entry level begins at a mnimum of $50,760.00

Application Procedure: Applicants will need to upload their curriculum vitae, a cover letter and names/emails of 3 references via our online RECRUIT system at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/apply/JPF05819

Screening will begin on December 1, 2019 and will continue until position is filled.
