Position description

UCI NATURE and the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology invite applications for a full-time field research technician in the Junior Specialist series. We seek applicants to support field research in UCI-supported sites in Southern California, including the Loma Ridge Global Change Experiment and the Coastal Sage Drought Net Restoration Experiment. UCI NATURE and faculty in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology oversee a network of field sites that enable research on climate change, invasive species, nutrient deposition, habitat restoration, and other environmental issues. The Loma Ridge Global Change Experiment was established in 2007 to understand ecosystem responses to altered precipitation and nitrogen pollution.

The successful applicant will support field research by maintaining infrastructure, implementing experimental manipulations, and collecting data. The position also involves coordination with academic researchers and staff as well as partner organizations, including other universities. Duties will include troubleshooting field equipment and technical problems, carrying out experimental protocols, weeding, and assisting project personnel with student groups, data acquisition and field site access.

Desirable qualifications also include: experience with operating and maintaining scientific equipment; familiarity with California plant species; knowledge of ecological field survey techniques; experience with data management and software coding; prior participation in ecological research and restoration projects.
