Engineering biology, including cells and biomolecules, has led to major advances in medicine, materials, and energy and will continue to have wide-spread impact. The Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invite applications for up to two tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level with a target start date of July 1, 2020. We seek candidates who will establish a strong and dynamic research program in cellular and/or biomolecular engineering, broadly defined, with research interests that spans multiple disciplines including molecular/cellular biology, genetic/protein/metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, chemical biology, functional biomaterials, mathematical/computational/ systems biology, and biophysics. It is expected that there will be two positions to be filled, one in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the other in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. The candidates should also be committed to teaching biomedical engineering and/or chemical & biomolecular engineering courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering or related fields. Postdoctoral experience is desirable.
The successful candidates will join an already strong research team at UCI with at least 10 faculty members already engaged in various areas of cellular and biomolecular engineering. The selected candidate’s research program should fit within this interdisciplinary and collaborative culture.
