Position description

The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) is a self-supporting unit within the University of California. Funding is generated through fees collected from a diverse, complex, and ever-changing student population. Part-time instructor positions are on a course by course contracted basis. This is NOT a faculty position.

Ongoing recruitment for part-time instructors for intensive college preparation courses in the following subject areas: US History and intermediate/advanced Calculus.

International University Programs, within UCI’s Division of Continuing Education, seeks applicants for part-time teaching positions in our quarterly programs for international students. Teachers will join a collegial, professional teaching environment that prizes excellence and has welcomed and instructed international students for more than 30 years. Our students hold full-time study visas and focus primarily on building academic and study skills essential for university and graduate school success in the U.S. The vast majority of our students are preparing for entrance to American undergraduate and graduate programs. Classes include undergraduate and graduate American and academic culture preparation skills, research writing and classes in specific academic disciplines. Students may take these classes in conjunction with UCI university-level concurrent enrollment courses.

All classes are on-ground classes, with additional support via Canvas. Classes meet Monday–Friday and are scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Intensive college preparation courses cover two quarters of instruction; teachers should be willing to commit for both quarters.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to, the following):
ϖ Teach 3-10 hours per week for six-month courses, as scheduled; frequently includes evening teaching
ϖ Maintain course materials, including syllabi, instructional materials and assessments
ϖ Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System as needed to enhance in-class learning
ϖ Evaluate student achievement of specific learning outcomes, and assign grades
ϖ Report students’ midterm progress and post final student grades to the transcript system by set deadlines
ϖ Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner
ϖ Handle student inquiries about final grades and consult with the academic unit as needed
ϖ Collaborate with the academic unit and other instructors as needed
ϖ Contribute to academic coordination responsibilities as needed
