The University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, invites applications from PhD, MD, or MD-PhD board-certified/eligible cytogeneticists to direct the Cytogenetics/FISH Laboratory within the Division of Molecular Pathology & Cytogenetics. The full-time academic appointment may be at the Assistant or Associate level in the Health Sciences Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research effort. Clinical X appointments confer membership in the UCI Academic Senate.
As Director of the Cytogenetics/FISH Laboratory, the successful recruit will have the administrative and interpersonal skills to effectively lead and coordinate clinical, teaching, and research activities within and beyond the division. Candidates should have extensive and current clinical expertise in Cytogenetics. The newly-approved Cytogenetics/FISH Laboratory, with a planned go-live date of July 2020, will be under the Division of Molecular Pathology & Cytogenetics; experience and/or knowledge of molecular pathology operations is preferred, but not required. Clinical licensure and board certification in Cytogenetics are required, as is dedication to teaching and mentoring is required, which will involve medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty.
The successful recruit will also have the skills to carry out Cytogenetics-related research as a thought leader or collaborative team member. Extramural research funding is welcome, but not required. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience.
