DEPARTMENT OF EPIDEMIOLOGY

Position: Associate or Full Researcher of Epidemiology

The University of California, Irvine, Department of Epidemiology is seeking applicants for a full-time position in the academic Professional Researcher series. The Department provides rigorous training in the fundamentals and practice of epidemiology and works to describe, understand and reduce disease in human populations. Research expertise among the faculty includes diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, aging, cognition, neurodegenerative disorders as well as the environmental, social, dietary and genomic determinants of health.

Qualifications:
Applications are sought from candidates with a PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, informatics, genomics, biology, economics, or social and behavioral sciences that would complement and extend the expertise in the Department and facilitate new avenues of externally funded collaborative research.

Successful candidates will have a proven track record of developing and leading a robust research agenda in one of the aforementioned topical areas. Candidates with a scholarly record of analyzing and interpreting health-related data in human populations are strongly encouraged to apply.

Requirements:
A doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., Dr.P.H., Sc.D. and/or MD) in a population health-related field and research excellence is required.

The qualified applicant will be required to meet the criteria for the Research series; academically qualified individuals who engage in research or other creative work and University and public service to the same extent and at the same level of performance as those holding corresponding titles in the Professor series in the same department.

Applicants should have an outstanding record of research and evidence of the ability to obtain independent or collaborative extramural NIH-type funding. Successful applicants will contribute to a broader, interdisciplinary initiative in the growing College of Health Sciences at UCI Irvine and will collaborate with other faculty members and research scientists in Epidemiology and across the larger campus.

Successful candidates will have a sustained record of research and peer-reviewed funding by NIH or its equivalent. Successful candidates will also have the following:
• A demonstrable peer-reviewed publication record
• National recognition in an area of public health
• A demonstrated ability to lead highly interactive and multidisciplinary
research teams
• Demonstrated success translating scientific discovery into new research directions applicable to vulnerable populations
• Knowledge/appreciation of the value of public and population health-related research and education and the capability to help integrate research into the community and clinical enterprises
• Experience working across academic and professional public health enterprises and public health leadership, research institutes, and community organizations
• A collaborative style that fosters and supports teamwork and innovation

This is an ongoing recruitment. Positions are dependent on extramural funding. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Initial appointments are for one year and renewal will be dependent on availability of support. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the University of California Academic Salary Scale.
