The University of California, Irvine (UCI) invites nominations and applications for the position of Chief Wellness Officer.

The Chief Wellness Officer serves as UCI’s senior executive responsible for providing a holistic vision on all major wellness efforts for the campus, and UCI Health, and is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of initiatives to improve wellness outcomes at UCI. He/she oversees the design of multiple initiatives and creates business plans for the implementation, delivery and study of new programs and services, and directs and oversees the implementation of innovative wellness offerings to a range of university constituents including students, faculty and staff.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and serving as a member of the Vice Chancellor’s cabinet that oversees UCI Health, this position will be eligible to be a Samueli Endowed Chair. Working in close collaboration with the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and the Associate Chancellor/Chief Human Resources Executive, the Chief Wellness Officer will play a pivotal role in building, creating and, where applicable, strengthening - through the integration of state-of-the-art programming and collaborative leadership models - the fabric of UCI’s overall student, faculty and staff health and wellness.

The ideal candidate will be nationally recognized with strong scholarly visibility and robust experience in research related to the design and conduct of large population based behavioral interventions focused on health and wellness, and in supporting the research, development and submission of grants to supplement wellness programming and educational initiatives. Successful applicants will have substantial administrative and program-building experience; and demonstrated leadership as an innovator, convener, ambassador, collaborator, partner and catalyst in mobilizing leaders from various institutional and community sectors around wellness goals. Candidates must demonstrate sensitivity to a wide range of disciplines, interests and constituencies represented at UCI and a deep commitment to wellness as part of its public mission; the ability to design bold, creative and innovative initiatives; and the vision, charisma and collaborative acumen to command the respect and involvement of colleagues and community members to improve climate and outcomes.

Successful candidates will have earned an MD, DPN, PhD, PharmD, DPH (or equivalent) and be eligible for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level. Should the successful candidate be a medical or clinical professional who will choose to partake in clinical duties, he/she will be board certified by an appropriate governing body and (if applicable) be eligible for (or currently hold) applicable licensure in the State of California.
