The Department of European Languages and Studies at the University of California, Irvine is seeking a lecturer of German for the 2020-21 academic year. This is a one-year 50% time position, renewable for a second year. Starting salary is 50% of the annual full time salary of $56,381. Service period dates are: Fall Quarter 2020, 9/28/20–12/18/20, Winter Quarter 2021, 1/4/21–3/19/21, and Spring Quarter 2021, 3/24/21–6/11/21.
Duties include teaching courses in the German program, directing the German language program, working closely with the German graduate students and lecturers teaching in the program, and engaging in departmental activities to support the program. Teaching load is four courses per year but with one course release for language program direction.
Desired qualifications: Ph.D. in German with specialization in applied linguistics, language pedagogy, or an area of German literature/culture. We seek candidates with experience in language program coordination, demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching, and a strong interest in working with students from diverse backgrounds. Native or near-native proficiency in German and English required.
