Lecturer - Literary Journalism

The Literary Journalism program at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for part-time lecturer positions to teach Literary Journalism courses at various levels during the Fall, Winter and Spring quarters of 2020-2021 academic year. Ideal applicants will hold a Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, or a related field and demonstrate excellence in and a commitment to undergraduate teaching. Candidates should have a minimum of five years' experience teaching at the university level. Candidates should also demonstrate research ability in some or all of the following areas: nonfiction literature and/ or theoretical approaches to narrative, nonfiction, or life writing. In addition, a background in narrative journalism and a substantial record of publication of original work in the field are preferred. The full-time teaching load in the School of Humanities is eight courses per year; the annual full-time salary is $56,381.00, and the salary per course is $7,047.63.

  1. Indicate the candidate’s teaching experiences to date, including experience with teaching undergraduates/graduate students, or other populations, as well as their areas of interest. This should also include mentorship that they have given to others in the line of research or outreach activities.

  2. Detail the candidate’s teaching approaches and philosophies, as to how they will engage in effective teaching strategies.
