The Department of Epidemiology at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for 1-2 full- time positions in the Postdoctoral Scholar Series. The selected candidate will contribute to and lead research centered on reducing cancer disparities funded by the NIH. This is a rich research opportunity to gain significant epidemiologic research-related experience on cutting edge topics under the supervision of Dr. Sunmin Lee.
Primary responsibilities for this position will be conducting literature review, formulating data analysis plans, conducting data analyses, preparing conference abstracts and presentations, manuscript writing/publishing, and assisting with grant application and project management. Publication of research results in high-quality journals and national conferences is expected. The Postdoctoral Scholar will also be encouraged to participate in study meetings and interact with collaborative research groups and mentor and work with graduate and undergraduate students. The selected candidate will work with the principal investigator, other project faculty, and the rest of the research team to help achieve the aims of the NIH-funded randomized controlled trial to reduce colorectal cancer disparities among Asian Americans.
In addition to this project, the researcher will have the opportunity to participate in a similar manner on another research project that focuses on reducing health disparities among minority and immigrant populations. This research is also housed within the Department of Epidemiology at the University of California, Irvine.
We are seeking motivated applicants with rigorous training and experience in epidemiologic methods (PhD/ScD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, or related field; or MD/DO with formal research training (MS/MPH/PhD), as well as a record of publications in previous research areas.
Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong quantitative/analytical research skills, experience using SAS, STATA, or R for both data management and analysis, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team with collaborators. Research experience in social determinants of health, health disparities, social and/or behavioral sciences is desirable.
Initial appointments are for one year and renewal is based upon performance and available funding. Compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
