The Wunderlich Lab at the University of California, Irvine has an opening for an NSF-funded postdoctoral position (www.wunderlichlab.org). The lab studies the mechanisms of how regulatory DNA, like promoters and enhancers, control gene expression, both in development and in the innate immune response. This position would support a project that uses a combination of functional genomics, natural sequence variation, and computational modeling to uncover the operating principles of immune-responsive enhancers, using the Drosophila model. A successful candidate will have a strong interest in enhancer biology and have either experimental or computational experience, or ideally, both. Experience with cell-based high-throughput reporter assays is an attractive, though not required, attribute.
The lab has an excellent culture, with a supportive, team-oriented working environment and a strong commitment to mentoring and the career and skills development of all the lab members. Opportunities to develop oral and written communication skills, attend scientific seminars, and develop management and mentoring skills will be available. The Wunderlich lab is affiliated with the Center for Complex Biological Systems at UC Irvine (http://ccbs.uci.edu) and the NSF-Simons Center for Multiscale Cell Fate Research (https://cellfate.uci.edu), both vibrant multi-disciplinary centers.
Candidates should submit a formal application through UC Irvine’s recruitment website (https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF06071) and include a C.V., cover letter that includes current research interests and motivations for applying to this position, and the names of three references. If you have any questions about the position, please contact the lab head, Zeba Wunderlich (firstname.lastname@example.org). Candidates are encouraged to apply by June 4, 2020, but the position will remain open until filled.
