Position description

The Division of Genetic and Genomic Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, UCI School of Medicine seeks to hire two full-time Board Certified Genetic Counselors to join our clinical and academic faculty of ten clinical geneticists and seven genetic counselors. The Division provides outpatient care and inpatient consultation services in the pediatric, cancer, metabolic, prenatal and adult genetics clinics at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center and our affiliated hospitals. Division faculty members also participate in didactic and clinical training of genetic counseling students, genetics residents, medical students, and other trainees, provide community outreach, and are actively involved in both clinical and basic science research.

Prenatal Genetic Counselor: This position involves providing prenatal and preconceptional genetic counseling at the UCI Medical Center Campus and our affiliated hospitals, where you will join a team of two genetic counselors, medical geneticists, and maternal fetal medicine specialists. Clinical activities include provision of services as part of the California Prenatal Screening Program, and coordination of genetic counseling services through the perinatal period for complex and high-risk pregnancies.

Pediatric Genetic Counselor: This position involves providing genetic counseling in the pediatric and adult genetics clinics. Clinical activities are mainly based at Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital (MCH), Long Beach, CA, where you will join our thriving and expanding Genetics and Metabolic programs, consisting of clinical geneticists, genetic counselors, metabolic dietitians, genetics and metabolic nurses, and a social worker. A small percentage of clinical activities will take place at the UCI Medical Center Campus.

Requirements: Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling or its equivalent. ABGC board certified active candidate status, and with eligibility for California genetic counselor license. Spanish language competency is helpful but not required. At least 1 year of employment as a Genetic Counselor preferred; however, new graduates also encouraged to apply. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications. The applicant must have demonstrated capabilities for teaching.
