Environmentally Induced Cortical Plasticity
A post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Ron Frostig. The research focus of this position is on cortical plasticity induced by transferring rodents from their impoverished home-cages to a ‘naturalistic habitat’ that imitates a natural rodent environment within the confines of a vivarium (see Polley et al. Nature 2004). To study cortical plasticity, the lab is applying multi-disciplinary Systems Neuroscience approach based on state-of-the-art techniques including functional imaging, blood flow imaging, electrode arrays electrophysiological recordings, pharmacological interventions, behavioral tests, and histological studies.
Dr. Frostig’s laboratory is located in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior at McGaugh Hall on UCI campus and is part of a rich and diversified Neuroscience research environment at UCI.
Candidates should be highly motivated and have a recent Ph.D. degree in biological/biomedical/bioengineering sciences. Experience in extracellular electrophysiology or functional imaging, in addition to computer programming experience, is advantageous for this position.
