The Department of Computer Science in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) invites applications for tenure-track assistant professor or tenured associate/full professor positions beginning July 1, 2021. The Department is interested in individuals with research interests in computer systems (broadly defined) including, but not limited to, topics such as: distributed systems, operating systems, cloud computing, storage systems, programming languages and compilers, and Internet-of-Things (IoT).

The Computer Science Department's curricula, faculty and research focus on an array of topics including: computer architecture, embedded systems, system software, networking and distributed computing, database management and information systems, artificial intelligence, and computer graphics; while also exploring interdisciplinary topics such as biomedical informatics, data mining, security and privacy, and ubiquitous computing.

At UCI, ICS brings together three unique departments (Computer Science, Informatics, and Statistics), thus strategically positioning itself to meet the technical and social challenges of computing and information systems in the coming decades. The U.S. News and World Report 2021 ranking identifies UCI as a top 10 public university and one of the top 30 universities for computer science in the United States. ICS is one of only five computing-focused schools among the Association of American Universities (AAU) members. Our 100+ faculty members include 2 NAE Members, 14 ACM Fellows, 10 IEEE Fellows, 10 AAAS Fellows, 2 IFIP Fellows, and many other national award winners.

UCI is located in Orange County, 4 miles from the Pacific Ocean and 45 miles south of Los Angeles. Irvine is one of the safest communities in the U.S. and offers a very pleasant year-round climate, numerous recreational and cultural opportunities, and one of the highest-ranked public school systems in the nation.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in Computer Science or closely-related field. To implement this process, UC Irvine requires all candidates of Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full) to complete, sign, and upload the form entitled “Authorization to Release Information” into AP RECRUIT as part of their application. If the candidate does not include the signed authorization to release information with the application materials, the application will be considered incomplete. As with any incomplete application, the application will not receive further consideration. Although all applicants for faculty recruitments must complete the entire application, only finalists (i.e., those to whom the department or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer) considered for Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full) positions will be subject to institutional reference checks.
