Position description

A Postdoctoral Scholar position is available in Dr. Bert Semler’s laboratory at the University of California, Irvine in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and the UCI Center for Virus Research. The position is fully funded by a private foundation for up to three years.

We investigate three major areas of RNA virology research: (1) Understanding the molecular basis of enterovirus persistence in cardiac cells; (2) Generation of novel rabies virus vectors for neuronal circuit tracing; and (3) Development of novel therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2. These projects use a wide range of experimental tools in molecular virology and cell biology. This position may support one or more of these projects.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. with research experience relevant to our lab interests and a desire to work independently within a collaborative team environment. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in RNA virus molecular biology and the study of virus-host interactions. Competitive applicants should have at least one high-quality, first-author publication. Applicants must have received their Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree within 15 months of the January, 2021 (or earlier) starting date of the fellowship.

Qualified candidates should submit the application materials listed below for full consideration to the following recruitment URL:
