Position description

A postdoctoral position is available at the Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center, Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of California, Irvine to develop integrated microfluidics and fluorescence imaging systems for diagnostics and research uses in life sciences.

Highly motivated candidates with a recent Ph.D. or an equivalent degree from a biomedical engineering, electrical/optical engineering, and analytical chemistry background with experiences in microfluidics, point-of-care devices, modern fluorescence imaging techniques, single-cell analysis, biosensors, aptamer sensors, in vitro evolution, molecular probe design, isothermal chemistry, fluorescence assay development, next generation sequencing, digital health, genome editing and/or system integration are particularly encouraged to apply. Industrial experience in point-of-care testing, in vitro diagnostics and fluorescence imaging systems, though not required, can be a plus.

The Zhao laboratory is located in the Stem Cell Research Center building and equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities. Successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary and collaborative team working with biologists, engineers, clinicians and industrial partners to develop next generation tools to address unmet needs in rapid and sensitive diagnosis of infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance, cancer liquid biopsy, single-cell genomics and clinical pathology. Successful candidates will enjoy both cutting-edge research and beautiful southern California.
