The laboratory of Dr. Zhibin Guan (https://www.chem.uci.edu/~zguan/) in the Department of Chemistry, the University of California at Irvine (UCI), is seeking highly motivated post-doctoral scholars wishing to advance their research and career prospects. Taking inspiration from Nature, the Guan laboratory synthesizes and studies soft materials including supramolecular assemblies and polymers that are active, adaptive, malleable, and self-healing. An exciting new project in Guan laboratory is the development of microtubule-inspired dissipative, active supramolecular materials using mild redox chemistry (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/syst.201900030). Our goal is to develop redox-controlled non-equilibrium active materials that closely mimic and seamlessly interface with living systems. This is a part of a larger effort of our newly funded Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) which has one IRG dedicated to bioinspired dissipative self-assembly of supramolecular active materials (https://ccam.uci.edu/research/irg-2-bioinspired-active-materials/). Highly talented post-doctoral scholars are sought to join this new effort. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. degree in chemistry and related field. Deep knowledge and experience in supramolecular chemistry, materials chemistry, chemical synthesis, and materials characterization techniques are requirements.
Required Application Materials: cover letter describing their research experience and career goals, CV, and the names and email addresses of at three professional references (please do not solicit letters).
