This position is for an academic, non-senate appointment in the Research Specialist at the Center for Artificial Intelligence in Diagnostic Medicine (CAIDM) at University of California, Irvine, Department of Radiological Sciences.
The position involves designing, implementing, and validating machine learning algorithms for biomedical projects, with a specific emphasis on deep learning neural networks. Experience in machine learning or data science preferred but not required. The CAIDM supports a broad research portfolio spanning a diverse range of pathologies that includes cerebrovascular disease; trauma; oncology (e.g. brain, breast, genitourinary, and lung cancers); and neurodegenerative disease. The candidate will work in large multidisciplinary environment with experts from radiology, neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, and pathology. The candidate will build and maintain strong relationships with administrative, academic, and other supporting units across the campus to investigate, analyze, design, and build/execute AI technology solutions in support of successful academic outcomes.
Requirements: Applicants with Ph.D. in a basic science or MD/ DO with research experience. Incumbent is expected to make scientific and scholarly contributions to the research enterprise, search for pertinent scientific literature as needed, and work with the CAIDM research groups in applying for intramural and extramural funding. Incumbent will be involved in collecting, preparing/curating research data; image preprocessing; machine learning algorithm implementation including design of custom neural network architectures; algorithm validation. Mastery of the English language is required. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. Experience with medical research is a plus.
