Postdoctoral research position: Synthesis, Characterization and Evaluation of Electrodes for Fuel Cells and Electrolyzers
Employer: University of California, Irvine
Application Deadline: Open Until Filled
Anticipated Start Date: 04/01/2021 – 05/01/2021
Anticipated Position Duration: 1 – 2 years
Job Description: Postdoctoral research position to conduct research on proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells and electrolyzers. The candidate will develop nanomaterial based catalysts and perform both material and electrochemical characterization. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to write high impact journal papers, conduct data analysis, and work with academic and industrial collaborators to further develop additive manufacturing processes for this technology.
We are a research group investigating bio-inspired synthesis pathways towards nanoscale materials for energy and water purification technologies as well as developing strong and tough biomimetic multifunctional materials. The research is at the intersection of materials science, chemistry, biology and mechanics.
The project of interest here involves: synthesis and materials characterization of composite nanomaterials. This includes extensive expertise with SEM, FIB, TEM, Raman and FTIR. Additional merit will be considered for those with polymer / fiber synthesis experience, including electrospinning and additive manufacturing processes. In addition, candidate should also be familiar with the fabrication and evaluation of fuel cell and electrolyzer performance. Previous experience working with cyclic voltammetry (CV), rotating disk electrode (RDE), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) as well as chronoamperometric experiments is highly desirable.
A great opportunity to pursue highly interdisciplinary science and have an opportunity to interact with PIs and researchers with diverse scientific backgrounds.
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Materials Science, or closely related fields. Strong oral and writing skills are required. Selection will place emphasis on expertise, experience and previous publication record.
Interested applicants should send a detailed CV (along with a list of publications), cover letter, and contact information for at least three references to Prof. David Kisailus (firstname.lastname@example.org). In the cover letter, delineate specifically how your skills can be applied to the work in this lab.
