Position description

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites highly motivated applicants for interdisciplinary postdoctoral scholar positions in the Wang Laboratory. These projects have the overarching goal of developing biomaterial-based strategies that enable tunable immunological properties. These scholars will be leading projects that are collaborations between the School of Engineering and the School of Medicine, with investigators who are members of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Institute for Immunology. Postdoctoral scholar openings are available in the areas of (1) cancer immunotherapy and (2) infectious disease vaccines.

The ideal applicants should have experience in two or more of the following areas:

  • protein expression, purification, and functionalization
  • nanomaterials synthesis and characterization
  • in vitro methods, human and/or murine, for assessing immunological responses, particularly antigen specific T cell responses
  • in vivo immunization and/or tumor investigations, specifically murine models

Good organization, communication, and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team are essential. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in either biomedical or engineering disciplines such as, but not limited to, biology, biomedical engineering, cell biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, and immunology, with a record of peer-reviewed publications.
