Position description

The Department of Physiology & Biophysics at University of California, Irvine seeks applications for Project Scientists (Assistant/Associate/ or Full) position beginning July 1, 2021. The candidate will participate in research projects
related to novel modes of ion channel regulation in the CNS. The candidate will participate in research projects related to novel modes of ion channel and transporter function and regulation. The position will involve studies of ion channel and transporter physiology and regulation by small molecules. Prior training and experience are required in one or more of the following areas: two-electrode voltage-clamp, patch-clamp electrophysiology, brain slice electrophysiology, high-throughput drug screening and/or molecular biology with an emphasis on optimization of gene expression in heterologous systems.

The position requires a Ph.D. in biological or biomedical sciences and/or M.D. from an accredited university. Completion of at least four years postdoctoral training in area of specialization at the time of appointment start. Demonstrated ability to write scientific reports and has successfully published research findings in high impact-factor journals as the first author. Demonstrated technical
competency in a variety of research techniques and protocols. Demonstrated ability to apply for research grant. The prospective Ion Channel Project Scientist (Assistant, Associate or Full) will work with Professor Geoffrey Abbott (for more information see

Initial appointment will be for a 12-month period at 100% of time with the possibility of renewal contingent upon funding and satisfactory performance

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

A Ph.D. in biological or biomedical sciences and/or M.D. from an accredited university.
