FACULTY APPOINTMENT IN NEURODEGENERATION

Departments of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and Neurology
UCI invites applications for an in-Line position to join the faculty of the School of Medicine in the College of Health Sciences. Appointments may be at any level, i.e. an early-stage investigator who would start his/her independent career at UCI (tenure-track), a mid-career investigator at the Associate Professor rank (tenured), or a senior investigator at the Professor rank. The academic appointment will be in the Line series, which confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate. This is a split appointment between the Departments of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and Neurology, with Pathology & Laboratory Medicine being the home department.
Ideal applicants will be employing genetic, molecular, cellular, and/or neurobiological approaches to the study of neurodegenerative diseases, especially Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, or frontotemporal dementia, with emphasis on potential translational application. Successful candidates will have track records of creativity and productivity, demonstrated potential for outstanding future achievement, and a desire to participate in an exciting, interactive, and growing neuroscience and neurological disease research community. The selected candidate will be expected to mount a productive and innovative research program, obtain extramural funding, and actively participate in graduate student, medical student, and resident education, and also to demonstrate a genuine commitment to service activities within the local, national, and international community. Candidates must hold a Ph.D., M.D., M.D.-Ph.D., or equivalent degree(s). A desire to complement and enhance one’s research program with a modest clinical presence in our robust neurodegenerative disorders’ clinics will be considered an advantage for M.D. Neurology candidates, but is not required. The successful recruit will collaborate with UCI faculty to build multidisciplinary research programs that utilize omics, systems, and other approaches to better understand human biology and treat disease. To achieve this goal, the candidate will be able to leverage existing resources and strengths of UCI Health and its many campus partners.
