Position description
The UC Irvine Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the Samueli School of Engineering is accepting applications for Assistant Project Scientist(s). This position will be part of the ProperData Center: http://properdata.eng.uci.edu. The research is in the general area of personal data privacy and transparency, and we are looking for Assistant Project Scientist(s) with a range of expertise, including but not limited to the following areas: privacy and security; networking; Internet-of-Things, mobile devices; machine learning, including privacy-preserving machine learning, and algorithm fairness and auditing; as well as data protection policy and law. The Assistant Project Scientist(s) will be expected to: work within an interdisciplinary and multi-institutional team; interact with industry and policy partners; supervise PhD students; write papers, proposals and reports; and work closely with the Lead PI/Director and Assistant Director of ProperData.
A doctorate in electrical engineering, computer science or a closely related field, from an accredited university, is required at the time of hire. Successful candidates will have a strong publication record in one or more of the above areas, and prior experience in independent research. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Initial appointments are for one year and renewal is based on availability of support and need.
