Position description

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Irvine invites applications from MD, MD/PhD, DO or PhD candidates to serve as Director of our Clinical Chemistry Division. This full-time academic appointment may be at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level in the Health Sciences Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research effort. Clinical X appointments confer membership in the UCI Academic Senate.
We are seeking an outstanding clinical chemist with managerial skills, a strong interest in service activities, a commitment to education, and a proven record in clinical and/or translational research. The candidate will work with department leaders, laboratory administrators, and technical personnel to ensure that we provide world-class diagnostic services to our patients. Candidates with an MD or DO degree will share on-call duties for all Clinical Pathology services except Transfusion Medicine. The candidate is expected to teach medical students, residents and fellows and engage in clinical or translational investigations.
The UCI Medical Center is a 417-bed tertiary care facility and is the only university-based care provider in Orange County. The Division of Clinical Chemistry is housed in a spacious and well-equipped teaching, research, and support complex. Our laboratory provides diagnostic services to UCI Health and consultative and referral services to a large number of hospitals in Orange County and other regional hospitals.
Applicants with an MD or DO degree should be board certified in Clinical Pathology and preferably also in Chemical Pathology whereas those with a PhD degree should have ABCC board certification or eligibility. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience directing a clinical chemistry laboratory. Qualified candidates from accredited fellowships without experience will also be considered. Physician applicants must be qualified for a medical license in the State of California. Applicants with a PhD must be eligible for a State of California Clinical Chemist license or equivalent.
