Position description
The University of California, Irvine, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is inviting applications for a full-time position at the Assistant Professor level. The academic appointment will be in the In-Residence series, which confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate.
Applicants should have an MD, DO, or MD-PhD degree and must have significant experience and publication record in the area of laboratory-developed tests (LDTs). Board certification or eligibility to practice Clinical Pathology is also expected. Candidates with extramural funding or applications for mentored or independent awards, particularly from the federal government, are especially encouraged to apply. As Director of Innovative Laboratory Diagnostics, the successful candidate is also expected to have excellent interpersonal and managerial skills, commitments to teaching and mentoring, and a desire to serve.
Founded in 1965, UCI is a top hospital and top-10 public university in U.S. News & World Report and home to several NIH-funded centers, including the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC), Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS), and Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC). With philanthropic support, the UCI School of Medicine is now joined by the Samueli Institute for Integrative Health and Schools of Nursing, Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Population & Public Health in the UCI College of Health Sciences, which also includes the Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center and Institute for Precision Health. The UCI Medical Center in Orange, the principal clinical and clinical training facility for UCI Health, features Douglas Hospital built in 2009 and a growing ambulatory network. As the centerpiece for UCI’s Brilliant Future campaign, a new hospital complex on the Irvine-Newport Beach campus is under construction and scheduled to begin operations in 2023. UCI Health is the only academic medical center in Orange County, the nation’s 6th largest county and one of the most desirable locations to live in the US.
