Salary range: Commensurate with experience

Position description

The University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine and Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine invite applications for a full-time faculty position. The academic appointment can be at any professorial rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full) in the Line (tenure track/tenured) series, which confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate. The School and Department seeks an MD, DO, PhD, or MD-PhD molecular pathologist with a strong academic background and exciting research program in molecular epidemiology in human pathology – the use of molecular data (e.g. genetic, genomic, proteomic, metabolomic) for human epidemiologic studies of cancer or other human diseases. Board eligibility or certification in Anatomic Pathology and/or Clinical Pathology is preferred, but not required. For appropriate candidates, cross appointments with the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the School of Population and Public Health, as well as the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC), are anticipated. For established faculty, programmatic leadership roles in one or more of these units and within the rich collaborative environment of UCI and UCI Health are envisioned.

Successful candidates should have demonstrated experience and commitment to training the next generation of molecular pathologists, epidemiologists, and biostatisticians. Within Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, trainees and mentees may include medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty.

Founded in 1965, UCI is a top hospital and top-10 public university in U.S. News & World Report and home to several NIH-funded centers, including the CFCCC, Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS), and Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC). With philanthropic support, the UCI School of Medicine is now joined by the Samueli Institute for Integrative Health and Schools of Nursing, Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Population & Public Health in the UCI College of Health Sciences, which also includes the Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center and Institute for Precision Health. The UCI Medical Center in Orange, the principal clinical and clinical training facility for UCI Health, features Douglas Hospital built in 2009 and a growing ambulatory network. As the centerpiece for UCI’s Brilliant Future campaign, a new hospital complex on the Irvine-Newport Beach campus is under construction and scheduled to begin operations in 2023. UCI Health is the only academic medical center in Orange County, the nation’s 6th largest county and one of the most desirable locations to live in the US. In support of its diverse citizenry, UCI is Orange County’s largest employer, contributing $7 billion annually to the local economy and $8 billion statewide.

To apply for this position, candidates should upload their curriculum vitae, statements (research, teaching, diversity), reference information, and additional items to UCI Recruit: https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF07575.

The University of California is committed to creating and maintaining a community dedicated to the advancement, application, and transmission of knowledge and creative endeavors through academic excellence, where all individuals who participate in University programs and activities can work and learn together in a safe and secure environment, free of violence, harassment, discrimination, exploitation, or intimidation. With this commitment as well as a commitment to addressing all forms of academic misconduct, UC Irvine conducts institutional reference checks for candidates finalists to whom the department or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer of appointment into Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full). The institutional reference checks involve contacting the administration of the applicant’s previous institution(s) to ask whether there have been substantiated findings of misconduct that would violate the University’s Faculty Code of Conduct. To implement this process, UC Irvine requires all candidates of Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full) to complete, sign, and upload the form entitled “Authorization to Release Information” into AP RECRUIT as part of their application. If the candidate does not include the signed authorization to release information with the application materials, the application will be considered incomplete. As with any incomplete application, the application will not receive further consideration. Although all applicants for faculty recruitments must complete the entire application, only finalists (i.e., those to whom the department or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer) considered for Ladder Rank Professor or Professor of Teaching series, at all ranks (i.e., assistant, associate, and full) positions will be subject to institutional reference checks.
