Position description
he Department of Surgery in the School of Medicine, University of California, Irvine, anticipates openings for physicians in its various divisions. These openings will be at the level of Assistant Professor or above (non-tenure), depending upon the candidate’s qualifications, and will be in the In Residence Professor series.
Surgical Divisions include the following: Cardiothoracic Surgery, Colon and Rectal Surgery, Emergency General Surgery (EGS), Gastrointestinal Surgery, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Transplantation Surgery, Trauma Surgery, and Vascular Surgery
Requirements – An M.D. or M.D./Ph.D., board certification or board eligibility in specialty, and a California Medical License are required. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with training, qualifications, and experience.
Strong interest and demonstrated abilities in delivering patient care in an academic clinical setting, teaching residents and medical students, and providing service to the university are required.
The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the In Residence Professor series is contribution with distinction in the areas of teaching and mentoring, research, University and public service, professional competence, and/or creative activities.
In Residence faculty at the Assistant Professor rank have a one-year ending date that may be renewed. This means that based on a review of your performance as well as departmental and programmatic needs, you are appointed from year to year until you reach the Associate level. Appointments to the In Residence Professor series at the Associate and full-Professor rank do not have a fixed end date. However, a department may establish a termed appointment (i.e., an appointment with an end date) due to budgetary reasons, programmatic change, and/or lack of work.
