Position description

The California Interdisciplinary Wildfire Research Center at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for the position of Academic Coordinator. The Wildfire Research Center is developing approaches to think innovatively about fires – why they happen, who they impact, and how we can stop them causing catastrophic damage to ecosystems, humans, and society. It also urges us to conceptualize ways of living with and through fires. This project is committed to facilitating working relationships with Indigenous scholars and fire management practitioners so that their perspectives and knowledge are learned and valued, as well as incorporated in long-term solutions for dealing with catastrophic wildfires. Long-term solutions include sustained management of lands, biodiversity, jobs, livelihoods, water, public health and safety, and historic preservation.

The Academic Coordinator reports to and works in close partnership with the Center’s primary investigators, and affiliate research centers. The Wildfire Research Center involves faculty and researchers from three different schools of UCI (Humanities, Social Sciences, and Biological Sciences).

The Academic Coordinator will serve as a central administrator for the Wildfire Research Center, acting within the policies and procedures of the University, School, and Center goals, which include coordinating research, facilitating communication between and among project researchers, planning internal and external meetings and events to further collaboration and share project findings, contributing to research direction and outreach strategy, creating and updating the project website, leading project reporting and proposal preparation.
