Position description
The Sue & Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC) and the Department of Physiology & Biophysics in the School of Medicine (SOM)/College of Health Sciences (CoHS) at the University of California Irvine invite applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position focused broadly on Tissue Engineering and Stem Cells.
This faculty hire will add to an existing cluster with a synergistic, interdepartmental concentration in stem cell-based tissue engineering that utilizes multidisciplinary approaches. Approaches of interest include neurotherapeutics, cancer stem cells, organs on a chip, 3D bioprinting, tissue specific organoids, cell engineering, gene therapy/genome editing, and immunomodulatory materials. Ideal candidates will have a neural focus, be collaborative, and have a multidisciplinary research approach within one or more of the following domains: 1) Novel strategies to control and direct stem cell differentiation in 3D microenvironments; 2) Functionalization/synthesis of novel scaffold materials for support of stem cell niches; 3) Applications of tissue engineering and high‐throughput screening of therapeutic compounds to human stem cells or organoids.
Academic appointment will be full-time at the Assistant/Associate Professor level, is open to PhD or MD/PhD scientists, and will include a generous start up package. Successful candidates will be expected to establish a robust extramurally funded independent research program that focuses on using or targeting human stem cells. Candidates will also be expected to contribute as members of UCI SCRC, fulfill departmental objectives, provide teaching in their discipline, and support the service missions of the institution. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.
A separate statement that addresses past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion must also be included in the application materials.
