Neuromuscular Disorders
The University of California (UC), Irvine is nationally and internationally recognized for clinical and translational research excellence in rare and ultrarare neuromuscular disorders. The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Irvine, is seeking candidates for a full‐time faculty position.
The successful applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Assistant, Associate, or Full professor rank. Applications are being sought from candidates who possess M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. degrees in the field of Neuroscience, Neurology or equivalent. Positions are dependent upon funding. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointments are for one year and renewal is based on availability of support
The candidate will primarily provide excellent clinical service, with particular focus on one or more sub-specialties within Neuromuscular Medicine. There will be additional expectations for teaching students and residents, engagement in research, and performance of university and public service. We encourage applicants who have expertise in the fields of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and myopathy, including myositis and other muscle disorders, to apply. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in clinical trials, including gene therapy or cellular treatments for neuromuscular disease, and who complement the department's existing strengths in neuroscience and neuromuscular disorders.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: (required at time of application)
M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. from an accredited institution with appropriate training and experience, postgraduate clinical training, and eligibility for one of the medical specialty boards. Candidate must demonstrate teaching ability or have a clear potential as a clinical teacher.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (required at time of start)
Board eligibility in the specialty appropriate to the clinical care and teaching activities or have appropriate equivalent recognition. Demonstrate clinical ability commensurate with experience in a Neurology specialty.
Criteria for the Professor of Clinical "X" Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is an essential criteria for appointment in this series.
Criteria for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series: The incumbent will be expected to teach fellows, residents, and medical students; provide patient care; contribute to scholarly activities; and provide public and University service.
