Position description
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, Irvine and Dr. Charles Limoli, Professor and Vice Chair of the Radiation Oncology Department anticipates an opening for a Project Scientist who will be responsible for investigating the response of the brain to ionizing radiation and chemotherapy. Research will involve extensive use of in vivo models where extensive experience in animal based CNS research is required. The successful candidate must possess a PhD degree in relevant fields and have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in CNS based research. Basic qualifications involve familiarity with major CNS signaling pathways, stereotactic transplantation procedures and possess the knowledge of how neurodegenerative disorders contribute to cognitive dysfunction. The applicant must be willing to work with animals and ionizing radiation sources, and be willing to participate in off-site experimentation.
Qualified candidates should also have additional experience in multiple forms of behavioral testing, survival surgery, electrophysiology, confocal microscopy and gene disruption via lentiviral delivery and related techniques. A detailed understanding of endocannabinoid system in the brain is a preferred requirement. Additional knowledge of oxidative biochemistry and radiation biology is highly desirable. This position is funded extramurally (NIH, NASA, DTRA) and negotiated salary will commensurate with experience.
