Position description

The Mkhikian laboratory at UCI is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar which requires a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, MD/PhD or foreign equivalent) with strong academic laboratory research backgrounds.
The Mkhikian lab is interested in understanding how glycosylation impacts human diseases. We focus primarily on the immune system and use techniques such as flow cytometry, PCR, and mass spectrometry. We use mammalian cell lines and primary mouse and human immune cells as model systems. The successful candidate will have a strong background in glycobiology, biochemistry, protein chemistry, immunology, and/or cell biology. Will give preference (not a requirement) to those who have demonstrated high productivity during their doctoral studies with first author publications in well-respected journals. Experience with flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, genetically engineering mammalian cell lines, genetically modified mice, and/or proteomics will be given preference. The successful candidate (preferred at time of application) will also demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and organizational skills, ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team, and commitment to mentoring others as well as being mentored.
