Position description

The Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) is a dynamic center encompassing a diverse array of interdisciplinary investigators that span the schools of Medicine, Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, Arts and Law. Our state-of-the-art, LEED Platinum certified research and clinical building houses 25 of our 65 center faculty members. Center faculty have obtained more than $200 million dollars in grant and foundation funding for their research programs. Our programs include undergraduate and graduate student training programs funded by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) and two National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored T32 graduate student training grants. The SCRC also offers state-of-the-art core facilities and shared equipment. The SCRC further supports an active community education program that strives to increase public awareness and understanding of stem cell science and regenerative medicine, in conjunction with education of the next generation of leaders in stem cell science.

The SCRC seeks to appoint an Academic Coordinator for our key education and outreach programs. Under the direction of the SCRC Director and CAO, and in close collaboration with faculty training grant principal investigators, the incumbent will serve as the training coordinator responsible for management and further development of our NIH-funded T32 and CIRM EDUC4, EDUC5, and BRIDGES grants, as well as new certificate programs focused on clinical research with cell and gene therapies, and good manufacturing process principles. The incumbent will also lead the planning and organization of community educational and outreach events, including activities designed to stimulate and steward community philanthropy. The incumbent will be expected to assist with applications for funding opportunities to support new/existing SCRC educational initiatives.

Primary responsibility for the coordination of SCRC education and outreach programs, including:

• Academic program planning and development
• Assessment of programmatic and stakeholder needs, including surveys, interviews, establishment, analysis and tracking of metrics and deliverables
• Participation in proposals for extramural funding and identification of support resources
• Coordination of existing programs across the SCRC with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)
• Coordination of patient and healthcare engagement, and community outreach and education programming across SCRC training programs
• Supervision and leadership of up to 2 staff in support of education and outreach programming

Basic qualifications:

Doctorate degree in biology or closely related discipline, or Master's degree with 2-3 years relevant experience. Documented evidence of professional accomplishment and scholarly contributions. Minimum of 2 years of experience in academic program administration or equivalent.
