Position description
The UCI School of Education is seeking a Director of the Teacher Education Program with expertise and a strong record of leadership in teacher education programs. This includes curriculum, pedagogy, policy, and current research in teacher education. The UCI School of Education seeks a visionary leader that will be responsive to and foster critical dialogue in the teacher education community , and evaluate/develop potential new certificate programs that respond to district needs in the region and state. The position is expected to start in June 2023.
Program Description
The UCI Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) + credential program enables students to receive a master's degree and a single or multiple subject teaching credential in 14 months. The MAT with Single Subject Credential program prepares candidates to teach one of six subject areas at the middle or high school level (English, World Languages, Mathematics, Sciences, Social Science or Visual Arts). The MAT with Multiple Subject Credential program prepares students to teach all grade levels and content areas within the elementary school curriculum. Teacher candidates in both programs experience a year long school site apprenticeship, where they apply content-specific teaching practices and theories studied in coursework. New cohorts of teacher candidates begin the program in late June, and complete the program the following July, allowing for a seamless transition to the workforce at the start of a new academic year.
Director Responsibilities
The Director of the Teacher Education Program is responsible for the coordination of the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) Program in the School of Education. Under the general direction of the Senior Associate Dean and in collaboration with the Faculty Director, this position provides overall management, supervision, and leadership for the program and partnerships with public school districts. This includes supervision of lecturers, supervisors of teacher education, program coordinators, and program staff as well as, oversight of and collaboration with district and site administrators and mentor teachers. In close collaboration with the Faculty Director, the Director will lead program staff in establishing and implementing the program’s vision, provide strategic directions and plans for teacher education, oversee the ongoing development and refinement of the core curriculum in alignment with state certification requirements; recruit, hire, and supervise instructors and program staff; and oversee the marketing of the program and the recruitment and retention of students. The Director will engage in the following efforts:
● Academic program planning and development
● Assessment of program and constituency needs
● Evaluation of academic program activities and functions
● Development of proposals for extramural funding of campus programs and identification of support resources
● Liaison representation with other agencies and institutions in the public and private sectors
● Coordination with other educator preparation programs within UCI
● Hiring, supervision and leadership of other academic appointees or staff
● Oversight and management of accreditation processes
Minimum Qualifications
● A doctoral degree (PhD) in education or related field
● Evidence of experience and success teaching adults and/or college-age students, including, but not limited to, instructor in a graduate, teacher preparation or undergraduate program, supervisor of student teachers, mentor for new teachers, instructor for professional development or new teacher induction programs
● Evidence of program coordination or program administration experience
Desired Qualifications
● Evidence of experience securing and managing grants
● A California teaching credential in single or multiple subject
● Six or more years of teaching in public schools
● Experience with curriculum development
● Knowledge and experience with technologies to support teaching and learning
● Evidence of familiarity with and applications of the latest research on disciplinary teaching and learning
● Evidence of success working in teams
● Strong written and verbal communication skills
● Strong leadership skills
● Strong interpersonal skills

Salary
The salary range for this position is $108,703 - $132,173. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See Academic Coordinator II series - Fiscal Year.
