Position description

The University of California, Irvine, Department of Neurology is recruiting for a Division Chief for the Neuro-Oncology Division to join our expanding department. All applicants must possess an MD or MD/PhD and hold California Board Certification or be California License eligible. The successful candidate will be fellowship-trained in Neuro-Oncology, and provide patient care and teaching. Requirements include both academic stature and accomplished clinical, leadership, and management skills to build and expand all aspects of Neuro-Oncology care at UCI, while advancing the research and educational activities of the program.

Successful candidates are expected to develop robust clinical practices, to participate in clinical trials, and to be involved educators. Outstanding training in neuro-oncology clinical care and a strong research background in a related area is expected.

The Division Chief will oversee the management of the Division of Neuro-Oncology to include direct oversight of faculty, staff and will have direct accountability for the Division’s clinical service and operational performance.

Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointments are for one year and renewal is based on availability of support

Criteria for the Professor of Clinical "X" Series:The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is an essential criteria for appointment in this series.

Criteria for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series: The incumbent will be expected to teach fellows, residents, and medical students; provide patient care; contribute to scholarly activities; and provide public and University service.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: (required at time of application)
M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. from an accredited institution with appropriate training and experience, postgraduate clinical training, and eligibility for one of the medical specialty boards.
Candidate must demonstrate teaching ability or have a clear potential as a clinical teacher.

• An M.D., M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree with active board certification or eligibility in Neurology with fellowship training in Neuro-Oncology.
• Board eligibility in Neurology, Hematology-Oncology, or Neuro-Surgery is required.
• Eligibility to obtain an active and unrestricted medical practice license to practice in the State of California.
• Completion of UCNS Neuro-Oncology certification is required if more than 1 year after graduation of Neuro-Oncology fellowship.
