Position description
The Qavi laboratory in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of California Irvine is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar which requires a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, MD/PhD or foreign equivalent) with a strong academic laboratory research background.
The Qavi lab is interested in developing the next generation of diagnostics for a variety of pathogens and diseases. Relevant skills include experience with lasers, LEDS, optical system hardware, clean room fabrication, electronic circuit design, optical engineering, signal processing, and data analysis. The successful candidate will have a strong background in optics and device fabrication. Will give preference (not a requirement) to those who have demonstrated high productivity during their doctoral studies with first author publications in well-respected journals. Experience with lasers, LEDS, optical system hardware, clean room fabrication, electronic circuit design, optical engineering, signal processing, and data analysis will be given preference. The successful candidate (preferred at time of application) will also demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and organizational skills, ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team, and commitment to mentoring others as well as being mentored.

A reasonable estimate for this position is $60,000-$71,952. See Postdoctoral Scholar – Fiscal Year Rates “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
