Position description

The University of California, Irvine’s PREVENT program, directed by Dr. Jason Schiffman, is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position. We are looking for applicants with an interest in the “clinical high-risk”state and early phases of psychosis in research and clinical settings. Located in southern California, we are funded for a number of clinical high-risk protocols focused on an array of topics, including value and development of screening tools, a range of biobehavioral measures of risk, neurocognitive performance, and treatment development. We are also in the process of building an early psychosis center of excellence to provide evidence-based services to the youth of Orange County. There are countless opportunities to write up data from any and all of these projects. For more details, please see our website: https://sites.uci.edu/leaps/

The successful applicant will join an active research team and will be responsible for analyzing and processing data, publishing/presenting findings, and providing research and clinical supervision to graduate students and research staff. There will also be ample opportunities for advanced training (UCI and surrounding schools have a number of in-depth training opportunities, covering a range of methodological and quantitative methods), collaborations (benefit from a number of our collaborations in Psychiatry, Social Work, Children’s Hospital Orange County, and partners from across the country), building mentorship experience (learning to direct and supervise research, clinical, and career development for graduate students), and developing an independent research program. Significant attention will be placed on career development (e.g., training in grant writing, peer review, mentorship, teaching, presentations/job-talks, conference attendance/participation, etc.).

For questions, please contact Jason Schiffman (jason.schiffman@uci.edu). Applicants should submit a C.V., cover letter describing interests and prior experience, Inclusive Excellence Activities Statement (https://ap.uci.edu/faculty/guidance/ieactivities/), and two publications (that best reflect candidate’s contributions to their field of study). Appointments renewable yearly for up to five years pending funding and based on progress/merit and professional goals of the successful candidate. There is a flexible start date (8/1/2022). Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Review of applications will begin one week after the job posting date and will continue until the position is filled.

UCI is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a Research University with very high research activity (R1). It is located in the heart of Orange County, situated in between Los Angeles and San Diego counties near other University of California campuses and countless community partners that afford extensive opportunities for research collaboration. The successful candidate will join a university and department with strong commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence https://inclusion.uci.edu/.
