Position description

The University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position to serve as a general surgical pathologist. The academic appointment may be at any professorial rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research effort. Both HS and Clinical X faculty provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; perform public and University service; and contribute to scholarly activities, but Clinical X faculty are expected to conduct more substantial research. An academic appointment in the Clinical X series confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate.

Applicants must have significant experience and/or fellowship training in general pathology, hold an MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree, must be board-certified or board-eligible in Anatomic Pathology, and be eligible for a California medical license. Expertise and experience in head and neck pathology and cytopathology is highly preferred. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to have excellent communication and managerial skills, a strong interest in service activities, a commitment to education, and a record in clinical and/or translational research that may be collaborative in nature. The candidate will be responsible for clinical services in surgical pathology, including on-call duty, service on departmental and hospital committees, and teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, and fellows.

This position will serve the laboratory needs of UCI Health, the only academic medical center in Orange County, which includes: the 400+ bed tertiary/quaternary care Douglas hospital located in the city of Orange; a new hospital complex on the Irvine campus that is under construction and scheduled to begin operations in late 2023; and several outpatient clinics throughout Orange County.

The base salary range for this position is $135,700 - $360,600. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. This position includes membership in the health science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Founded in 1965, UCI is a top hospital and top-10 public university in U.S. News & World Report and home to several NIH-funded centers, including the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) and Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS). The UCI School of Medicine along with Samueli Institute for Integrative Health, Schools of Nursing, Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Population & Public Health make up the UCI College of Health Sciences.
