Position description

The Barbour laboratory at the University of California, Irvine is seeking a highly-motivated Jr. Specialist to be part of an exciting multidisciplinary project on host-pathogen interactions and involving microbiology, genetics, systems biology, and bioinformatics. The successful applicant will interface with team members to provide general research support and to carry out various laboratory procedures of a state-of-art microbiology and genetics lab, managing a rodent colony, and general lab management.

We are looking for individuals that are highly organized, possess excellent communication skills, enjoy working in a team environments, and be comfortable handling and caring for rodents. Preference will be given to applicants with previous research experience with laboratory mice. The successful applicant will start in summer 2023 and will continue in the position for at least one year. The position is full-time (100%), though depending on the experience of the successful candidate, a part-time (60% or 80%) maybe considered.

The Barbour laboratory is a part of the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics in the UC Irvine School of Medicine. This position will be part of a highly supportive and diverse research environment with excellent career development opportunities.

Applicants must have a BA/BS in Biology or Chemistry or in related field the area of biological sciences.
