Position overview

Salary range: Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) calculation includes AAMC salary benchmarks for Gastroenterology, MD ranging from $329,267 to $397,354. The posted UC salary scales set the base pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Position description

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Medicine is recruiting for clinical investigator faculty members at the level of Professor or above, in the Clinical X Series. The level of appointment will be dependent upon demonstrated expertise, skill set, and capacity to support an independent research program. Positions can involve clinical and academic activities at one or more sites including UCI Medical Center and/or UCI Satellite Community Clinic locations. Faculty in these positions are expected to be Principal Investigators (PIs) for investigations (clinical, translational, basic science); and productive in the scholarly activities matching one or more of the Institution’s missions: Discover, Teach, Heal.
Faculty with expertise in Motility, Interventional Endoscopy, are encouraged to apply, and join the expanding GI division and Digestive Health Institute.

Minimum requirements: MD, MD/PhD or equivalent degree, Board certification or eligibility in adult Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and eligibility to obtain an active medical practice license in the State of California. Candidates are expected to lead and conduct clinical and/or translational research within a specific area of focus. Areas of specialty include but are not limited to esophageal, gastric, intestinal, liver, pancreas, biliary, colon diseases, gastrointestinal malignancy, endoscopic detection of premalignant lesions, interventional endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, advanced endoscopic imaging techniques, or therapeutic endoscopic interventions. UC Irvine is home to one of 51 NCI designated comprehensive cancer centers and one of only 23 institutions also holding a Clinical Translational Science Award.
The UCI Digestive Health Institute under the leadership of Kenneth Chang, M.D., has clinical sites throughout Orange County, a population of 3.2 million, with a second medical campus to open in 2024. The GI Division of the Department of Medicine is the academic home of 20 faculty, with 12 fellows and 2-3 advanced fellows.

Candidates will be joining our established Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center, Comprehensive Heartburn Center, and Foregut Team. The Foregut team currently includes 1 Esophageal motility faculty, 4 Foregut surgeons, 2 Foregut interventional endoscopists, 1 Foregut Medical Oncologist, and 1 Interventional PA
Candidates must have or be eligible for a California Medical License. Candidates must also be board-certified Internal Medicine and Board-certified/board eligible in Gastroenterology. The position will include outpatient and inpatient consultations, procedures, interpretation of esophageal manometry studies, supervision of fellows and residents, teaching, and clinical research.
