Position description

Position: Postdoctoral Scholar

A postdoctoral position is available at the University of California at Irvine (UCI), the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2).
This position will be exploring energy engineering solutions for supporting research areas such as flexible plug loads with local energy storage, energy efficiency in plug loads, building energy management, industrial IoTs, AIs, communication and networking for harmonizing loads.

Requirements - Applications are being sought from degreed candidates in physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science/engineering or materials science/engineering. Completion of PhD degree in related area and/or equivalent experience preferred. The successful applicant will become part of a team collaborating with other technical staff in CalPlug center. It is expected that an applicant possesses outstanding communication skills and is able to clearly communicate technical plans and results. The applicant will be responsible for researching and developing energy engineering solutions. Knowledge of or ability to learn energy engineering is necessary. Ability to be versatile, efficient and productive with minimal supervision or guidance is desired.

This position is funded by the institute. Initial appointment is for two years and renewal is based on performance. The responsibilities include assisting Calit2 director in developing technical strategies, implementation, and applications in CalPlug (a center within Calit2 with a focus on energy efficiency in manufacturing process and building plug loads), working on CalPlug projects for prototypes, presentations and publications, and collaborating with Calit2 staff in coordinating technical contents for center demos, and workshops.
